Communicating Environmental Ideas Effectively

Increasing people’s knowledge can increase pro-environmental behavior. However, knowing what kind of knowledge is most effective in increasing this behavior and can help guide activists and governments in determining what kinds of educational campaigns should be created in order to maximize impact and inspire positive change.

Photography can be a great example of effective environmental communication that can promote pro-environmental behavior and action. Pictures are a form of documentation and they can record the impactful changes happening on our planet. Powerful images can effectively present an environmental problem requiring a solution to a variety of different mindsets and people. Ansel Adams is a great example of achieving this, the photographs he showed to the US government led to the creation of some National Parks in the West because his images showcased how the beauty of nature needs to be protected.
